Book I Thee Take (To Have and To Hold Duet Book 2) Review :

From the moment I started reading, my heart was in my throat- and it stayed there the whole time. What a jaw-dropping, suspenseful, and consuming conclusion to this amazing duet. Twists and revelations, heart pounding action, and an epic love story- I Thee Take ups the ante. This duet conclusion is more intense, more emotional, sexier, and so much darker. I loved book one- but I FLOVED book 2.Book 2 picks up right with the heart stopping finale of book one- Cristiano betrayed by an unnamed rat, Scarlett betrayed by her own blood, kidnapped, and facing a fate worse than death at the hands of their enemies. Cristiano soon finds himself at a crossroads- has Scarlett, the enemy who has somehow crawled into his heart, changed his priorities? Can she even be saved? Will he remember the past he’s forgotten? And who REALLY is the enemy?Cristiano….oh, lord have mercy. He intrigued me in book one, captured my heart, earned my empathy, and entranced me with his brooding, broken alpha magnetism. But in book 2? HE OWNED ME. He’s a hero, and he’s also the anti-hero, he’s strong and formidable, but we also see his vulnerability. Because the only thing more powerful than a Cristiano with a revenge quest is Cristiano fighting for those he loves. Be still my heart- he’s everything. What I LOVED about the narrative approach is how NK plays with parallels- in book 1, we had a lot of emotional intensity, more internal. Sure, we had some action, but the loud, chaotic part of the story was the volatility of their relationship. Here, NK flips the script. Our couple has evolved, changed into something new- something more stable, more centered, softer and more grounded, but not less passionate. But the danger, the action, it’s transformed into an unstoppable force. The violence, the turbulence, the volatility now is external, giving space for Cristiano and Scarlett’s relationship to focus on what their chemistry looks like when they are in harmony instead of at odds. Of course, the road to get there isn't easy- and both of them have a ton of baggage, both past and present, to worth through. But now we finally get to see them work through it as partners, as hesitant allies. Their chemistry is still intense, but their connection more complex and intimate. And I loved every moment of it. Deliciously sexy but also swoon-worthily sweet. From the first word to the last page this story is heart pounding, intense, passionate, dark and violent- an enthralling page turner that I simply could not put down. I loved this duet! Consider this my official plea for a continuation of this world- there are some loose ends (with other characters) that I’m hoping Natasha will pick up in future series/duets.PS-as I mentioned, this is definitely darker than book one, please note if you have triggers.
I love this book so much. I even pre-ordered it because I need to read the continuance of the 1st book. I love the complex and complicated drama in this book. It takes the story to a whole other level.Reason why I am giving a 4 instead of 5 star rating:I’ve read many of this author’s books. I feel like the author is not brave enough to kill the female lead. That said, it’s always the male lead that got almost killed. To me, it shows how untouchable the female lead is. I understand perhaps the author does not like violence on the female lead, but I think if the author can make the female lead touchable from death, not just the male lead, it would take the story to another level.Things I like and to keep in future stories by this author:- The characters. Strong masculine male lead and innocent weak but strong inner personality of the female lead.- The chemistry and development between the lead characters.- The slow burn and conflict. Up and down. Drama that makes the relationship hard to get but worth to embrace in the end.- The HEA that often includes Baby is just diamond!!Things I think can be improved:- The courage to risk the life of the female lead. I know Scarlett almost died because of drowning. But she’s still pretty much untouchable. It’s just losing some adrenaline for me as a reader since the author focused too much on risking the male lead’s and other male’s characters. To me, what makes me thrilled more is if the female lead can be pushed into a more risky situation like when she sacrifice herself for her husband, etc. that’s the true female warrior to me. And that’s called true development.- One think I believe not quite solved satisfactorily is that Scarlett has been accused as Traitor by Dante. I think it’s too easy for Dante to just finally believe she’s not a traitor after his scene with David. I just think Scarlett does not do anything to prove her innocence apart from her husband saying she’s innocent. I was expecting there will be some dramatic scene where Scarlett puts her life on the line for Dante or Christiano, which is proving her innocence 100%. That’s to me true proof. All in all, this is still one of my best dark romance books. I hope the author develops more of her imagination. I love that she always uses innocent and weak female lead but strong personality to survive. I just think the author needs to be braver to put her female leads into more risky adventures. Unless this story is more about Christiano than Scarlett. Which I don’t think the title then makes sense.
